Hypocrisy, War Crimes, and the Price of Silence 6/20/2025

Hypocrisy, War Crimes, and the Price of Silence

The U.S. and U.K. have long sown the seeds of instability in the Middle East, beginning with the 1953 CIA-MI6 coup that overthrew Iran’s democratically elected government and seized control of its oil. Today, our hypocrisy is staggering. We condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while justifying Israel’s unprovoked strike on Iran, which has already killed over 600 civilians, including the young poet Parnia Abbasi.
Mass protests in Tehran and mass displacement at Iran’s borders underscore the public’s rejection of war. Meanwhile, the U.S. flirts with escalation, with President Trump threatening unilateral strikes without congressional approval—despite international inspectors confirming Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
At home, Israel decries Iranian retaliation, claiming 24 fatalities and damage to a hospital. But for nearly two years, Israel has systematically destroyed Gaza’s health infrastructure, including 38 hospitals and 81 major health centers.
In Gaza, nearly 100 Palestinians, including children, were killed in a single day as they sought humanitarian aid. UNICEF warns malnutrition is surging under Israel’s blockade. The UN has blacklisted Israel for grave violations against children.
We must end this morally bankrupt double standard. If we truly value human rights and the rule of law, then we must stop enabling war crimes—whoever commits them.
