Biden-Harris unconditional support to Israel may be their undoing 9/16/2024

Biden-Harris unconditional support to Israel may be their undoing

Recent coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict highlights pressing issues that require urgent attention. As Israeli forces intensify attacks on Gaza and expand their operations in the West Bank, the humanitarian crisis deepens. Palestinian writer Amjad Iraqi and former Israeli peace negotiator Daniel Levy have noted that Israeli proposals in ceasefire negotiations are united by the assumption of continued Israeli control over Gaza. This assumption undermines prospects for a genuine resolution.
The recent airstrikes on Gaza, including the deadly attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp, which killed at least 10 people including children, reflect the severe humanitarian impact. The official death toll from Israel's actions has surpassed 41,200 (although the actual toll could exceed well over 150,000) , with extensive casualties, including infants. Meanwhile, Israel has acknowledged that three hostages killed in Gaza were likely victims of an Israeli strike.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy have reaffirmed their commitment to a ceasefire and the release of hostages. Yet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vow to impose a "heavy price" on the Houthis and the internal divisions within Israeli leadership, particularly between Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, highlight the conflict's complexity.
The Biden administration’s support for Israel, including substantial military aid while simultaneously calling for a ceasefire, reflects a troubling inconsistency that could impact Democratic prospects in the upcoming election. Additionally, the escalating violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank further entrench Israeli control, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
Reassessing these policies and supporting meaningful negotiations is crucial for addressing the conflict’s root causes and alleviating the suffering of those affected.
