Trump’s collusion in Israeli elections 4-18-2019

18, April 2019                    Trump’s collusion in Israeli elections

While the jury is still out on possible Trump-Russian collusion in the 2016 US election, President Trump has brazenly colluded in Israel’s elections - declaring Jerusalem Israel’s capital, granting Israel sovereignty over the Golan Heights and then following up declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist group exposing US troops to unnecessary conflicts with Iran. The wily Netanyahu capitalized on his close friendship with Trump to edge out his rival Gantz in the recent Israeli elections. The International Criminal Court judges were banned from the US lest they expose US and Israeli war crimes. In an effort to sanitize Israel’s ‘apartheid” image, the word “occupation” has been removed from the State Department’s assessments of human rights infringements on the West Bank. To further punish the Palestinians, the US eliminated relief funding for Palestinian refugees, and declared its intention of leaving the U.N. Human Rights Council because it was too critical of Israel. Washington ignored terrorist attacks by the Israeli military bombing of hospitals, schools and the water treatment infrastructure in Gaza while army snipers were shooting unarmed demonstrators demanding their freedom. Next month, the US will begin enforcing worldwide sanctions on all Iranian oil sales intensifying hardships on the people of Iran. Buoyed by US media silence of its many transgressions, Netanyahu announced plans to annex parts of the West Bank. In a quid pro quo, Trump will expect US Jewish voters to reward him in the 2020 election. Jewish Americans should dispel lingering doubts of their allegiance and rising acts of anti-Semitism by speaking out forcefully when U.S. and Israeli interests collide. As a first step we should redirect the $3.5B given to Israel annually to Americans mired in food and job insecurity, and homelessness.
