British parliamentarians have shown a stubborn disregard for Palestinian rights. Their continued failure to translate promises into meaningful action stands in stark contradiction to the teachings of all faiths, including Anglican, Jewish and Catholic traditions, which call for justice, compassion and respect for human dignity.
Jewish people everywhere should be deeply troubled by the persecution, dispossession and suffering inflicted upon Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Criticism of Israeli government policies is not criticism of Judaism or Jewish people. No government should be above international law.
Britain must move beyond diplomatic statements and take decisive action. All arms supplies that risk facilitating violations of international humanitarian law must end immediately. The ongoing devastation and alleged genocide in Gaza must be brought to an end. Humanitarian aid must reach everyone in need without obstruction.
The international community must insist on accountability, an end to occupation and the establishment of a genuinely sovereign Palestinian state, with equal rights, dignity and freedom.
Jeremy Corbyn's longstanding advocacy for Palestinian justice deserves serious consideration. Britain must demonstrate that human rights are universal, not selective. Silence and inaction are not neutrality; they carry consequences.
