13, May 2018 Exiting the Iran Deal
Once again the “bull in the china shop” has precipitated
a possible armed conflict with Iran weakening more moderate voices and
strengthening the hardliners.
The 3M European leaders, May, Merkel and
Macron responded in horror. In a classic case of the tail wagging the dog,
President Trump buckled under Israeli – Saudi pressure and made a swift clumsy
exit from the Iran deal plunging the Middle East into further chaos.
The Trumpian,
Clint Eastwood swagger, “make my day” could not quite conceal the multiple
risks he and the rest of the world are facing. Forgotten is the inconvenient
truth that 15 of 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis. Forgotten is the ongoing
Israeli massacre of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Sadly, Trump is wallowing in the fantasy
that the Iranians will abandon all their hostile activities and following
unprecedented economic pain will crawl back to the negotiating table. He is also sending a clear message that
America’s signature and promises are hollow.
There is little doubt that the pro-American
Iranian people will quickly morph into outright seething anger. Seemingly
unconcerned of the turmoil he has generated Trump can always go back to his
supporters and boast that he has fulfilled another campaign promise putting his
own political survival ahead of the welfare of the word. Shameful!
