Netanyahu lies, civilians die
Netanyahu’s False Alarm Sparked a TragedyPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again plunged the Middle East into chaos based on a familiar and repeatedly debunked claim—that Iran was “months away” from building a nuclear bomb.
Jon Stewart recently skewered this fear-mongering on The Daily Show, playing clips of Netanyahu issuing the same warning as far back as 2012. Over a decade later, no bomb materialized—but this recycled fiction became the pretext for Israel’s deadly strike on Iran last week, killing over 200 civilians and triggering retaliatory attacks that killed scores in both countries.
This reckless assault has destabilized an entire region, just days before long-awaited nuclear negotiations. Netanyahu’s obsession with Iran’s theoretical bomb has now caused very real bloodshed—from Iranian families burying their loved ones in Tehran to Israeli civilians caught in the backlash.
