Trump and Netanyahu Betray the Moral Core of Their Faiths
As bombs fall on Gaza and Tehran, it is vital to ask: what happened to the moral compass of leaders who claim to act in the name of faith? Both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu profess deep religious conviction—Christian and Jewish, respectively—yet both are complicit in actions that defy the core teachings of their own traditions.
Judaism holds human life as sacred. The Torah commands, “You shall not murder,” and Jewish law demands the protection of innocents above nearly all else. Christianity, too, centers on love, compassion, and the sanctity of life. Jesus taught, “Blessed are the peacemakers” and warned that harming a child is such a grave evil that it would be better to be drowned than to commit it.
Yet today, Israeli forces kill children at food distribution sites in Gaza, and malnourished toddlers die after being denied medical evacuation. President Trump authorized massive strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, and then denounced Israel for violating a fragile ceasefire—after weeks of fueling escalation himself.
What we are witnessing is not the righteous pursuit of justice, but the calculated pursuit of power at the expense of children and the vulnerable. This is political opportunism wrapped in false piety.
True faith demands humility, mercy, and above all, protection of the innocent. Trump and Netanyahu betray those values daily.
It is time for people of all faiths to say: Not in our name.
