Subject: President Biden’s Middle East Policy Failures: Time for Accountability
Dear President Biden,
I write with grave concern regarding the ongoing violence in the Middle East, particularly Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. Your administration's failure to effectively leverage American influence has not only diminished the U.S.'s role as a mediator but has actively contributed to the escalation of violence across the region.
While you have publicly called for a ceasefire, the continued provision of arms to Israel undermines these efforts. This dual approach sends a clear message: the U.S. is not serious about peace. Prime Minister Netanyahu, aware that American weapons will keep flowing, has repeatedly defied U.S. requests for restraint, emboldened by the lack of meaningful consequences. This mirrors past failures, where American leadership enabled aggressive policies under the guise of regional security, from the Iraq invasion to Israel’s earlier operations in Lebanon.
Rather than fostering peace, your administration’s tacit approval of Israeli airstrikes and the blockade-induced starvation in Gaza has fueled instability. Allies and neutral observers, especially in Southeast Asia, have grown alienated, as the Gaza conflict has now become a leading geopolitical concern.
The tragic human toll in Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank, particularly among children, underscores the moral failure of your Middle East policy. Supporting military action while civilians are indiscriminately targeted only undermines the values the U.S. claims to uphold. Your inaction and continued arms support are enabling a humanitarian catastrophe that history will judge harshly.
Israel’s pursuit of tactical victories against Hezbollah and Iran may serve Netanyahu’s political ambitions, but it does little to ensure long-term security for Israelis, Palestinians, or the region. It is time for the U.S. to reassess its role, hold Israel accountable, and prioritize diplomacy and human lives over political gain.
