U.S. Complicity in Israeli Aggression Must End
Dear President Biden and Vice President Harris,Israel’s ongoing airstrikes and targeted raids in southern Lebanon have killed over a thousand civilians and displaced more than a million people. Now, Israel claims to have launched a ground invasion, though both Hezbollah and U.N. peacekeepers deny that any incursion has begun. The chaos is spiraling out of control, and the U.S. government’s mixed signals are deeply troubling. While President Biden has called for a ceasefire, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has reinforced U.S. support for Israel’s reckless actions.
Israel's tactics—bombings, targeted assassinations, and provocations along the Lebanese border—appear aimed at dragging the U.S. into a broader conflict. Hezbollah reports that Israeli forces attempted to enter southern Lebanon but were forced to retreat under heavy fire. Prime Minister Netanyahu seems more interested in rehabilitating his shattered image after October 7 than in any genuine pursuit of peace. Expanding this war into Lebanon is not only destabilizing the region but is also jeopardizing U.S. interests.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, has made it clear that peace is possible, but only if Israel ends its occupation and supports the establishment of a Palestinian state. Netanyahu’s refusal to pursue peace is dragging Israel, and by extension, the U.S., down a path of perpetual war.
Your administration must stop enabling this escalation. The U.S. should be using its influence to push for peace, not supporting Israel’s dangerous expansion of conflict. The world is watching, and history will not look kindly on leaders who stood by as innocent lives were lost and opportunities for peace were squandered.
