Israel’s October 27 election presents a choice between deepening division and building a shared future. Mansour Abbas, leader of the United Arab List (Raam), has demonstrated the importance of Jewish-Arab cooperation in Israeli politics. His renewed partnership with a Jewish former police commander challenges the dangerous idea that Arab citizens must remain excluded from national decision-making.
Israel cannot achieve lasting peace or security by marginalizing its Arab citizens or treating political cooperation as a threat. Jewish and Arab citizens deserve equal rights, dignity, and representation. Their shared future depends on rejecting racism, religious extremism, and political fearmongering.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s campaign warnings about Abbas should not distract voters from the urgent questions facing Israel: equality before the law, an end to occupation, protection of Palestinian lives, and a political settlement that guarantees both Palestinian freedom and Israeli security.
A genuine partnership between Jews and Arabs could help replace confrontation with cooperation. Democracy is strongest when leaders build bridges across ethnic and religious divisions rather than exploit them for electoral advantage.
Israel’s future should belong to everyone who calls it home. The world needs leaders courageous enough to choose equality, justice, and peace over division and permanent conflict.
