Human Life Is Not a Political Bargainsrael’s latest airstrikes in Lebanon, which reportedly killed at least 11 people, are a grim reminder that civilians continue to pay the price of military escalation.
At the same time, Israel is announcing plans to transfer policing of settlers to an Israeli civilian police force. This raises serious questions about whether settlers who commit violence will truly be held accountable.
The United States should not remain silent. Washington must demand adherence to international law and the protection of civilians.
Military power cannot create lasting security. Accountability, diplomacy, and respect for human life must be at the center of U.S. policy toward Israel and the region.
The United States should use its influence to press for an end to attacks on civilians and for genuine accountability for those who commit violence. Our commitment to human rights must apply to everyone.
