US and UK guilty of Iran crisis - 8.9.2026

Trump’s huffing and puffing threats against Iran should remind Americans how deeply our history in the region is entangled with oil and power. in 1953, the United States and Britain helped overthrow Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh after Iran nationalized its oil industry, protecting Western oil interests.

Today, we again hear threats of war while Americans struggle with high food, gasoline and housing costs. meanwhile, Washington continues pouring billions into foreign wars and military commitments while politicians debate spending trillions more on defense.

The Atlantic and other major media outlets have reported concerns about weapons stockpiles and the enormous demands placed on the U.S. military. If our arsenal and resources are already under strain, why should Americans accept reckless threats of another potentially devastating war?

America’s strength should not be measured by how loudly its president threatens to bomb another country. It should be measured by whether our government can protect American lives, strengthen our economy and pursue diplomacy before war.

Americans deserve leadership that puts peace, prosperity and national interests ahead of endless warfare.
