STOP SQUANDERING BILLIONS ON FOSSIL FUELS - 8.9.2026

It is outrageous that the TRUMP administration is squandering billions of taxpayer dollars on fossil fuels while the world is literally on fire.

As reported by BRAD PLUMER in The New York Times, the administration agreed to pay German energy company RWE about $1.2 billion to cancel three offshore wind leases. RWE plans to redirect much of that investment toward liquefied natural gas and natural-gas turbines.

This is not just an energy-policy disagreement. It is a reckless use of taxpayer money and a dangerous step backward on climate action. The federal government has now committed nearly $4 billion in payments to abandon offshore-wind projects.

At a time when wildfires, extreme heat, floods and other climate disasters are intensifying, America should be accelerating the transition to clean energy—not paying billions to dismantle it.

The question is simple: Why are taxpayers financing the retreat from renewable energy while the climate crisis is accelerating?

America needs leadership for the future, not subsidies for the fossil-fuel past.
