Israel’s Flotilla Raid: An Assault on Humanity and International Law - 10.2.2025

Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla marks yet another brazen violation of international law. In international waters, Israeli commandos boarded and seized ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, abducting 443 activists from 47 countries, including Greta Thunberg and Mandla Mandela. These activists were not armed aggressors but citizens of conscience delivering food, medicine, and supplies to a besieged population.

Israel claims its blockade is legal, but the International Court of Justice has already ruled that obstructing humanitarian missions is unlawful. As Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila noted, Israel is effectively admitting it is committing war crimes in Gaza. The global outcry—from street protests in major cities to condemnation by world leaders—reflects how deeply this assault undermines basic principles of justice and human dignity.

At the same time, Israel’s government has threatened Gaza City residents with death if they do not flee, branding all who remain as “terrorists.” This collective punishment is not security; it is genocide, aided by international silence.

The world must demand accountability—now.
