The world must not become numb to the killing of innocent human beings.
In Gaza, a Palestinian couple and their two young daughters, just 12 and 8 years old, were killed when their home in Beit Lahia was destroyed
in an Israeli airstrike. Two children lost their lives in the place where they should have been safest — their home. No political argument and no military objective can make the death of innocent children acceptable.
In the West Bank, Palestinians continue to face raids, detentions, injuries and fear. Families are being forced to live under constant uncertainty about their homes, their freedom and their future.
In Lebanon, Israeli strikes have continued despite a ceasefire, killing civilians, including children and medical workers. The same pattern of violence cannot be allowed to continue without accountability.
The United States and the international community must stop treating Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian civilian lives as less valuable than any other human lives.
There must also be complete transparency about the investments of public institutions such as CUNY. If public university funds are invested in weapons manufacturers, prison companies or financial institutions connected to settlement activity, the public has a right to know where its money is going.
As America approaches another anniversary of 9/11, truth must matter. Claims about what happened at Ground Zero should be measured against the historical record, eyewitness accounts and available evidence. The victims and first responders deserve honesty, not political mythmaking.
War does not make humanity stronger. Bombs do not create justice. Revenge does not create peace.
Every child in Gaza, every Palestinian in the West Bank, every family in Lebanon and Syria, and every civilian anywhere in the world deserves the same fundamental right — the right to live.
America must demand an end to the killing of civilians, accountability for possible war crimes, transparency in public investments and genuine efforts toward peace.
Human life must come before military power, political loyalty and financial profit.
We must choose peace over war, compassion over hatred, and human dignity over political power.
