India’s Greatness has always rested on its extraordinary diversity of Faiths, Cultures, Languages and Traditions. Its Constitution promises Equal Citizenship and Religious Freedom—not Political or Religious Supremacy.
The growing influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) raises profound questions about India’s commitment to Secularism and Multifaith Democracy. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits and other Minorities must never become second-class Citizens in their own Country.
Prime Minister NARENDRA MODI, as the Nation’s Leader, has a special responsibility to unite ALL Indians. He should therefore publicly reject Political Religious Supremacy and renounce his membership in the RSS. A Prime Minister cannot credibly represent every Citizen while maintaining allegiance to an organization whose political vision is viewed by many as incompatible with India’s Secular Democratic Constitution.
This is not an attack on Hinduism or Hindus. Hinduism is a great Faith with a rich tradition of spiritual diversity. The issue is whether Political Power should be used to elevate one Religious identity above others.
India must remain a Democracy for ALL Indians. Prime Minister MODI should choose Constitutional Democracy over Religious Nationalism, Equal Citizenship over Division, and Unity over Supremacy.
