A Plea for Humanitarian Protections in Conflict Zones - 7.7.2026

Reports that a Palestinian baby died after an ambulance was allegedly blocked at an Israeli checkpoint should shock the conscience of the world. If medical care is obstructed during conflict, the most basic principles of humanity and international humanitarian law are placed at risk.

Equally disturbing are the continuing calls for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, whose reported detention and alleged brutal torture have drawn condemnation from medical professionals and human rights advocates worldwide. Doctors, nurses, and paramedics must never become targets of violence or political retaliation. Those who dedicate their lives to saving others deserve protection, not abuse.

These allegations require an independent, credible international investigation. If violations of international law have occurred, those responsible—regardless of rank or office—must be held accountable through due process.

Silence in the face of civilian suffering only deepens the tragedy. The international community must insist on the protection of medical personnel, unrestricted humanitarian access, the safeguarding of ambulances and hospitals, and respect for the dignity and rights of every human being.
