At a time when Venezuela is facing devastating earthquakes, when families are grieving, homes are destroyed, and people are struggling to survive, it is deeply disturbing that the United States is reportedly surging military forces toward Venezuela while pursuing access to its oil resources.
This is a moment that should call for compassion, humanitarian aid, and solidarity—not military pressure and resource exploitation. The suffering of ordinary people must never become an opportunity for powerful nations to pursue economic interests.
Such actions should horrify all who claim to follow the teachings of the world’s great religions. Faith traditions teach humility, mercy, justice, and care for the vulnerable. They do not teach that wealth and resources should be taken from people during their darkest hours.
The United States should stand with Venezuelan earthquake victims, not add to their suffering. True leadership is measured by compassion, not by a power grab to steal another nation’s resources.
