Zohran Mandani is right. Benjamin Netanyahu stands accused of grave violations of international humanitarian law, and the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for him. Whether one agrees with every political statement or not, no leader should be above the law or immune from accountability.
Public figures such as Thomas Friedman have enormous influence. That influence is best used to promote justice, human rights, respect for international law, and equal accountability for all nations. Selective outrage weakens the credibility of democratic values and the rules-based international order.
If international law is to have meaning, it must be applied consistently, regardless of a nation's power or political alliances. Justice cannot depend on politics. It must be impartial, universal, and guided by evidence and due process.
To have Netanyahu entertained at the White House is an affront to all we claim to stand for. He is a war criminal and belongs in jail for the rest of his life.
