The killing of a newlywed woman in an Israeli strike on Lebanon is yet another heartbreaking reminder of the human cost of military escalation. At the same time, Gaza’s children are protesting as Israel’s military chief reportedly declares kite flying a “terrorist act.”
When children flying kites are treated as terrorists, something has gone terribly wrong. Children should be protected, not militarized, threatened or treated as enemies.
The international community, especially the United States, must demand accountability and an immediate end to attacks that kill civilians. Israel’s government must respect international law and protect children and other noncombatants.
The world cannot remain silent while innocent people pay the price of endless conflict. Peace requires more than statements—it requires political courage, accountability and an unwavering commitment to protecting human life.
