Ari Berman’s warning about Donald Trump’s contested effort to restrict mail-in voting should concern every American who values democracy. Voting by mail is an essential way for millions of citizens—including seniors, people with disabilities, military personnel, and those unable to reach polling places easily—to participate in elections.
Any attempt by the federal government to restrict access to mail-in voting risks disenfranchising eligible voters and undermining confidence in our elections. The right to vote should not depend on a person’s health, location, work schedule, or ability to stand in a polling line.
